Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar

The Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar has the mission of conserving, spreading and deepening knowledge concerning the work of Júlio Pomar in its various aspects, as well as fostering critical reflection and debate regarding the contemporary arts and culture.

With its specificity and as a centre for the dissemination of Júlio Pomar’s work, the Atelier-Museu offers a programme of exhibitions which seeks to address the technical and thematic plurality of the work of this artist, who for generations has been recognised as a multifaceted artist. Emphasising its permanent collection, but also resorting to borrowed works that are considered influential in the artistic catalogue of Júlio Pomar, the exhibition programme covers partial exhibitions of the collection, anthologies of drawings, illustrations for literary works, decorative arts, among other aspects, that verify the multidimensional nature to which his work is connected.

The architectural design of the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar, with its austere outline and refined lines, blends discretely into the architectural fabric of the neighbourhood, and was carried out by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira.
